Bridgestone/Skechers three race day review
Our first race at the oval in the Bridgestone car was very successful with a win. What a blast, I was really able to get the car to rotate well mid corner. This allowed us to get a great run off. Ultimately getting us in the position to take the win. Of course Stan’s not so great start didn’t hurt any either. Although, I’m quite sure we could have got him anyway, we had the car working that well. Thanks Doug and Courtney for your hard work.
On to the Horse Thief Mile. TV just doesn’t give this place any justice. This track is like climbing up and down a mountain three times a lap, and did I mention how narrow it is. The passing zones are very limited, so setting them up is key. That along with great starts. Race three we started in the 9th position with the Bridgestone car. For us the race was pretty uneventful. We were able to move up to the top five. I really decided to take it pretty easy after seeing the way some of the guys barrelled into the hairpin at the top of the hill on lap one. Once every one got single file we were able to pick people off one by one.
Race four was a little different. Tommy presented me with opportunity to have my own car. This was our ultimate goal, but we just didn’t expect it so soon. The Skechers car was now all ours, and along with the car, we got the pole position. The only catch to this deal was the uneasy feeling of driving the car into turn one without any idea of the setup. Lucky for me, the other teams had given Kaitlin and her father some pretty good advice, and the car worked just fine. We were really able to drive away from the field on every restart. I did have one start that I over drove a little into turn one. This allowed Christiano in the Bill Wall Leather car to get a great run on me at the hairpin at the top of the hill. Lucky for me, he over drove the entry, and I saw it coming. He blasted past me on the inside, and proceeded to lock them up. I then drove righ back underneath him, and never looked back.
