So here we got the studs‘ first full album, following a series of good to sub-par efforts from Daisuke and his deadman base. I strongly believe that you will love this album when it is performed live, but on CD it just doesn’t kick me where it should, even if the bristling title track “and hate” is one of the few studs songs sounding like an actual studs song instead of a deadman cover and does great in setting the mood for the album.
“niji no iro”, one of the two recent singles, may still be the studs‘ best song so far and also shines brilliantly on this album, contrary to each one of the other already known songs from “shakunetsu ha reido” to “gaze” and “advance insane”, the latter a blatant copy of their earlier fun title “thursday”. Not every new song is a reason for joy here, though. “dread” and “unslightly stupid” are an average duo, both songs struggling to present anything noteworthy between deadman reminiscence and studs uniqueness along their humming basslines.

Continuing down the album tracklist, I can’t help but feel fairly underwhelmed by average-class songs like the reluctant “aru asa”, until “keishou” finally grabs some funky groove, back-up vocals and grows to be one of the more obvious enjoyable tracks. Especially the great guitar work here makes “keishou” really stand out.
